You're Hired
by Bill Rancic
Book Review by Amy Coffin
You’re Hired is a perfect example of why one should never judge a book by its cover. On the surface, this appears to be a work rapidly arranged to ride the publicity heels of NBC’s popular blockbuster “The Apprentice.” After all, Bill Rancic won the equivalent of a reality television game show just a few months ago. How could he possibly have enough experience to fill a book? Begin at page one and you’ll find the answer.

Rancic’s business sense was cultivated long before his television appearance. In this combination autobiography/business manual, the author details his early teenage ventures including buying, refinishing and selling cars at a profit. This occupation led to other endeavors including the founding of a nationally recognized cigar company.

You’re Hired is geared toward the twenty- and thirty-something entrepreneurial set. Rancic writes with great candor and a refreshing lack of ego.

The book is divided into an introduction and seven sections. Lessons Learned on various character and business traits conclude each chapter. He does touch on his time with “The Apprentice,” but focuses mostly on the business aspects of the game.

Donald Trump provides the Foreword and several plugs for his own ventures. However, the real treat is Rancic’s own perspective. You’re Hired offers a glimpse of the man that beat out 215,000 other contestants and proves that Rancic is more than qualified for the job.
