Three Weeks
With My Brother
by Nicholas and Micah Sparks
Book Review by Amy Coffin
During a time filled with looming publishing deadlines and typical family stresses, best-selling writer Nicholas Spark received a life-changing piece of junk mail. It was a pamphlet advertising a unique trip around the world. With family blessings, Nicholas took his brother Micah on this once-in-a-lifetime journey around the globe. Fortunately for loyal readers, the author kept a written log of his trip. He conspired with Micah to write Three Weeks With My Brother.

The Sparks brothers’ memoir chronicles their exciting vacation to exotic places. In between destination descriptions, Nicholas Sparks provides autobiographical glimpses into his personal life. Readers will be surprised to learn their favorite author’s own story is filled with the uplifting highs and stunning lows found in any of his novels.

Sparks writes his memoir with incredible candor. He reflects on the strengths and imperfections of his parents and siblings while courageously opening up about lost loved ones. The trip’s purpose was to solidify the brothers’ relationship. The book explains the history behind the bond and the importance of maintaining it.

Family photos are included between chapters, putting faces to the names and experiences. Sparks writes with such passion and sincerity that one can’t help but be moved by his honesty. This must-read should come with a box of tissues. Three Weeks With My Brother is Sparks’ best book yet.
