Seven Up begins in the same manner as its predecessors. Jersey girl and bounty hunter Stephanie Plum is assigned a case that should lead to quick money. Geriatric bail skipper Eddie DeChooch is easy to spot and easy to catch. He dated Stephanie’s Grandma Mazur for a while but she got tired of his visually, audibly, and erectionally challenged ways.
When Stephanie shows up at the House of DeChooch, Eddie hops out the back window and starts the ball rolling on problems that are headed straight toward our favorite bounty hunter.
Seven Up has all the expected slapstick crime fighting performed by the usual cast of suspects. Stephanie still has boy problems with Joe and Ranger. Entrepreneurial stoners Mooner and Dougie get mixed up in DeChooch’s business. Valerie, the more perfect sibling in the Plum family makes her debut as well.
The plot involves smuggled cigarettes, a stolen pot roast and a handful of fringe members of “The Family.” The story is entertaining and easy to follow. The standard Jersey wisecracks are well-timed and fun.
Bestselling author Evanovich is in the groove with this seventh installment. Sometimes the comedy is corny, but the author guides her heroine through the Lucille Ball school of laughs in her bounty hunting ways.
