I've got to come clean about my uncoolness and admit that I've never heard of Odd Todd or his ultra-popular web site. Dot-com casualty Todd Rosenberg used his suddenly spare time to cultivate his cartoonist desire. Small successes grew into bigger ones. His website, OddTodd.com, sprouted an entertaining publication titled, "The Odd Todd Handbook: Hard Times, Soft Couch."
The Odd Todd Handbook is more personal than a condolence card for you or your employment-challenged friends. It covers "everything you need to get you through the day when you have nothing to do and nowhere to go." Chapters are arranged to follow a typical day. Time killing activities include getting out of bed at 10:23 am, taking a nap at 2:32 pm, and thinking about boobs at 8:01 pm.
There isn't any practical employment advice in this book, but there are plenty of laughs. This will be obvious to most people, but there's always that one guy who doesn't get it, so I feel compelled to mention the fact. You don't need to be a regular visitor to the Odd Todd website to appreciate the book's advice: Get in your robe! Get on your couch! Get busy doing nothing! There's no better time than the present! Or tomorrowor wheneverwhatever.
People like to give new graduates copies of "Oh the Places You'll Go!" by Dr. Seuss. If you want to be a good friend, face the reality of today's job market and buy your grad The Odd Todd Handbook.
